Muslim leaders pour cold water on Valentine’s Day to warm up to conservative voters
KUALA LUMPUR (17 February 2012) — February 14 was greeted with anti-Valentine’s Day sermons and fatwas as religious leaders in Malaysia continue to struggle with what they see as an un-Islamic celebration. This time around, the rhetoric is especially heated, with some politicians hoping to score points ahead of the general elections widely expected to be held this year.
